                                                                                                               OCTOBER MISSION STORY

Ali Follows Jesus

Meet Ali,* his wife, and their six children. They lived a simple life in the hills of Central Asia. Ali provided for his family by growing wheat and herding a few goats. One small river gave water for his crops. One well gave water for his family and goats.

For five years there was no rain. The river disappeared. Ali’s wheat dried up. The goats died because they couldn’t find grass to eat. When their well went dry, Ali decided to move his family to a city in a nearby country. He was sad to leave the land he loved.

In the city, Ali got a job sewing men’s coats. Ali is thankful for his job, but his family is still very poor. The family of eight lives in just one room. They eat mostly bread and tea.

The shop where Ali works is small and dark. Five men sit on the floor and lean over sewing machines that they crank by hand. They work for twelve hours every day.

Ali can hardly wait until teatime. Each day during tea, one of the workers reads from the Bible. The words give Ali hope and peace. Before moving to the city, Ali did not know the truth about Jesus. Today, Ali bows his head and prays, “Yes, I will follow Jesus!” As he looks up, he is smiling and full of hope!

Please pray for men in Central Asia who work in shops for long hours every day. Pray that Christians will tell people who come to their shops about Jesus.
